Welcome to Guitar Planet, tell us about Ivan Mihaljevic?

Hello! I'm a guitarist, singer and composer from Croatia. I'm always working on a lot of different projects, but 2 main things that I do are playing with the hard rock band Hard Time and with my band Ivan Mihaljevic & Side Effects with which I'm releasing a second album soon.

Who are your musical influences?

There's so many of them that I don't even know where to start. I love the music of Dream Theater, Mr. Big, Toto, Audioslave, Richie Kotzen, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Gotthard, Keith Urban, Steve Morse, Steve Lukather, Queen and so much more that the list could probably take up the whole space for the interview. There are also some great guitar players and singers which influenced not only my writing style, but also my style of playing and singing. The guitarists that I must mention are Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Richie Kotzen, Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather… Some of the singers that I have always admired and learned from their recordings are Richie Kotzen (again), David Coverdale, James Hetfield, Ronnie James Dio, Jorn Lande…

What gear are you currently using?

I'm using 3 Ernie Ball Music Man guitars – 2 John Petrucci models and 1 Silhouette special. The amp I'm using is the Engl Powerball with Engl 4x12 cabinet loaded with V30 speakers. All the distortion is coming from the amp. In my pedalboard I have a Korg Pitchblack+ tuner, Ernie Ball Wah, MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay, MXR Stereo Chorus and Artec Analog Delay (which I'm using for just one song live).

Why Music Man guitars?

They have everything I need. They feel great in my hands and they sound huge. They're very versatile and incredibly easy to setup. With a Petrucci and a Silhouette Special, I can cover all the sounds that I need.

Your new CD "Destination Unknown" is great, what guitars did you use?

That album was recorded before I got my Silo, so all the electric guitars were recorded with my 2 Petrucci guitars. For the acoustic tracks, I used a Seagull S6.

My favourite tune on the album is Choosh Pies, It's like Santana meets shred!

Thanks! I actually wrote that song for the Guitar Idol competition last year.
